Build-Your-Own Greene & Greene Low Stool 

This course aims to introduce you to woodworking with hand tools and gain mastery of the proud finger joint. The proud finger joint is a beautiful joint inspired by the Greene and Greene Brothers who advocated the use of art as furniture. In Greene and Greene furniture, it is commonly used in drawer and cabinet construction.  

 

This course serves both beginners and advance woodworkers well. For beginners, you will be introduced to the world of solid wood and hand tools. It will cover enough to give them the confidence to do simple woodworking projects at home. For the advance woodworkers, they will appreciate the mastery of the finger joint, and the sharing of ideas with other hand tool lovers.

  • Beginners in woodworking

  • Woodworkers new to hand tools

  • Woodworkers interested in the proud finger joint

 

At the end of the day, through active construction of the proud finger joint low stool, participants would have a beautiful piece of art to take home as furniture and be confident with the use of basic hand tools and mastery of the woodworking joint. 

Through lecture, demonstration and hands-on practical, participants will:

  • Understand some of the characteristic of wood movement, 

  • Name basic tools in the tool kit provided

  • Be able to use marking out tools such as the combination square, steel rule, marking gauge and marking knife to mark out on wood

  • Able to use hand saw to cut along the line

  • Be confident using the bench chisel and mallet to cut finger joints

  • Be introduced to the use of a drill and fasteners such as screws

  • Use of plugs

  • Cutting a simple cloud lift pattern

  • Tips and tricks of woodworking
